Akron Brass Commemorates 9/11 Attacks

Ceremony held at Wooster, Ohio Headquarters

Wooster, OH, (September 11, 2015) – The Akron Brass Company hosted a ceremony commemorating the 343 fallen firefighters from the terrorist attacks on September 11^th.

Akron Brass invited area firefighters to attend a flag ceremony, tours and luncheon on Friday morning beginning sharply at 9:37 am. The Wooster City Fire Department Color Guard marched in while Akron employees and guests looked on. This was followed by an invocation from Pastor Dean Hammond of the Parkview Christian Church. President Sean Tillinghast gave a moving speech in which he remembered, “It was fourteen years ago today, we lost 343 firefighters, 60 police officers and 8 paramedics who responded to cries for help from the World Trade Center… To those who answered with such courage, who rushed into an inferno, who charged up those stairs: On this anniversary, we can only commemorate their courage, remember their sacrifice and honor their service.”

Bagpipe players from the College of Wooster provided a processional to the ceremony with “Taps” performed by local Boy Scout Ashton Franks.  Pastor Brian White, Parkview Christian Church, offered a benediction before a catered lunch was held to show our appreciation for those currently serving and risking their lives for our safety. Custom t-shirts were sold as a part of the event with all proceeds going to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. Employees also participated in a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at the Columbus Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.
